Established a cohesive curriculum aligned to standards from teacher-archived units for Grades Kindergarten through Grade 12.  Formed an external editorial team to rewrite and edit 250 teacher units and 7,000 student downloadables for a digital and print delivery to an international group of schools.

Led a group of five editors in establishing proto-types for all levels of a Leadership Curriculum for Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) for print and digital delivery. This curriculum brought Girl Scouts to engage in a new level of youth development.

Managed a staff of approximately 30 in-house and 20-40 out-of-house writers/editors; oversee direct preparation of over 80 major Grade K-12 curriculum projects in such areas as: reading, literature/language arts, social studies, math, and science, with special emphasis on reading, language arts, literacy, standards and assessment issues. Facilitated bridging the editorial processes through production to final file; work with publishing clients’ marketing and production staffs, as well as with out-of-house staff.

Researched and prepared grant applications, set up innovative curriculum proposals, made presentations to boards and prospective grantors. Raised funds for the Center with nationally known educator, Professor Maxine Greene. Planned two regional and two national arts-in-education conferences in New York. Founded a publishing house to produce and market a new concept in classic short stories with 22 titles for the domestic book trade, gift trade, and corporate premium markets.  Obtained international distribution, secured and maintained independent sales reps for various markets, negotiated co-publishing arrangements with four countries. Administered a publishing staff of six-to-twenty people, handled financials, raised 250K through private-placement offerings.

Supervised the development of over 500 titles for the high interest/low vocabulary school library market. Originated and managed transition from library market to internationally known trade book line by expanding into international co-publishing arrangements. Produced 40 new titles of fairy tales and classic stories for this innovative market, twice winning the Bologna International Children’s Book prize. This trade line continues today as successful “Creative Editions.”

Creative Education Inc, as Library Publisher
As co-founder and co-director of a development house, “Guild House,” we developed approx 80 titles/year for this leading publisher in high-interest/low-vocabulary books on such areas as:
• Rock ‘n pop stars
• sports figures
• political/ philosophical figures
• biographical series on famous people
• biographical features on young, not famous, people

Authored over 40 of these titles in 4-year span; managed editorial direction of series.

Creative Education, Inc, as children’s trade publisher
As executive editor/editorial director for Creative Education, conceived of new library titles of classic short stories, study skills, etc.
• Established an international team of artists to interpret 20 classic fairy tales. Artists included Etienne Delessert, Ivan Chermayeff, Seymour Chwast, Michael Hague, and others; merited Bologna International Children’s Bookfair awards for 3 consecutive years.
• This fairy tale series emerged into full-scale international partnerships in graphic/story presentations (children’s books for all ages). This line continues to expand and sell by Creative Education.

AGS (American Guidance Service, Minneapolis)
Created a comic workbook series on “Critical Issues” for middle school & high school students that combines concept and graphics to present famous people/thinkers’ views on these big issues that teens deal with-- suicide, divorce, self esteem, teen pregnancy, etc.) for students to use in reading/ writing skill development.

Columbia University
1. Created all brochures and proceedings for the Center for Social Imagination, the Arts and Education under the founder-philosopher, Maxine Greene.
2. With teachers from the Brooklyn High School Board of Education, turned teacher’s homemade curriculum into more professional curriculum (novel Taste of Salt for use with ESL students in 1998).
